Culturally Affirming Care: Supporting BI/POC, Muslim, and Queer Individuals in New York
Our Practice
Inspired by the Urdu word "Saya," (meaning shadow, protection), Saya Psychotherapy is a provider of liberation focused and culturally affirming mental health services. Saya works at the intersection of client identities, supporting Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Muslim, and/or LGBTQ+ individuals in New York navigate the various challenges of life with the care, compassion, and understanding they deserve.
-
Saya Psychotherapy was born out of the recognition that there is a critical need for therapy practices that truly embrace inclusivity and are createdby Queer and Bi/POC individuals for Queer and Bi/POC individuals.
Understanding the lack of representation of culturally affirming and intersectional care for Asian American, BI/POC, Muslim, and Queer individuals within the mental health field, Saya Psychotherapy was founded with a deep commitment to providing an affirming space for our clients to explore unique experiences, challenges, and strengths inclusive of their identities.
-
Central to our mission is a commitment to anti-oppressive therapy, where intersectional and culturally affirming care is at the forefront.
Our practice acknowledges the unique experiences and intersectional identities of each client and centers our therapeutic approach beyond the boundaries of a Eurocentric lens. By integrating diverse therapeutic frameworks and prioritizing our client’s various identities, lived experiences, cultural traditions, and impact of sociopolitical events on mental health, we are committed to fostering a nurturing and corrective therapeutic relationship that is both affirming and challenging and built on trust, safety, and empathy.
